Kathy Tissington, NP:MN

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Certified through The Menopause Society.

Kathy completed her Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction in 2000 from the University of Calgary. She then practiced in the Emergency Department where an interest in prevention started to grow. Seeing patients present in a health crisis became frustrating and she decided to pursue becoming a Nurse Practitioner to focus on primary care and prevention.

She graduated from Athabasca University with her Masters in Advanced Nursing Practice in 2010 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has been practicing in the Primary Care setting ever since. She has worked in numerous areas over her career including research, education, women’s health, Geriatrics, and Pediatrics. She has a love for learning and is constantly taking courses and attending conferences and webinars to expand her knowledge base. Cultivating new tools to help her patients in their health journey.

Kathy utilizes a functional medicine approach with her patients. Functional medicine is a patient-centered holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease, rather than just treating symptoms. This approach looks at how genetics, lifestyle, and environment impact our health. She recognizes the uniqueness of each patient, taking a personalized approach and collaborating with patients to create a health plan.

Kathy has taken numerous courses through the Institute of Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Antiaging Medicine. She has gained advanced knowledge in gut health, fertility, weight management, hormones, longevity, and mitochondrial health. She has a special interest in women’s health and prescribes bioidentical hormone therapy for women. Kathy is also a member of the North American Menopause Society (The Menopause Society). She also manages male hormone health, providing personalized care for patients with testosterone imbalances and other related conditions. In addition, Kathy works with couples, providing personalized care, education, and support to enhance reproductive health and improve the chances of successful conception.

Kathy is a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. She works with patients in Alberta and BC virtually and in person.
